There is no airport to Ponte Malongane/Kosi Bay where we are based; there is also no public transport (Busses, transfers, trains, planes)

Halo Gaia tours all run on a ‘self-drive’ basis and we often put clients in touch with each other to share the transport to the border.

From Johannesburg

Kosi Bay border where we collect you is a 700km drive from Johannesburg that can take between 8-9 hours
Border Opens at 8h00 and closes at 17h00 sharp
Halo Gaia border transfers collections are at 9h30 or 13h30 ( Unless taking your own 4×4 across to the camp 12km on a soft sandy track )
If you take the 9h30 transfer you will need to depart the day before and overnight in Pongola at a recommended guest house (5 hours from JHB and another 3 to the border)
If you take the 13h30 transfer you will need to depart very early that morning to make the 8-9 hour drive by 13h30 (many people take this option all be it a bit stressful)
There is safe secure lock up ( pay per day) parking at the border where your car is left
If you are taking your own Vehicle across the border you will need a certified copy ( rather than original) of your vehicle registration papers in your name…
“Remember the journey is as much about getting there as being there, the road trip is a part of your adventure, relax and enjoy the navigation and the scenic places you will pass through, and please take care “

From Cape Town:

From Cape Town the best route is to fly into Durban hire a vehicle and travel another 500km ( scenic journey via St Lucia etc) to the Kosi bay border where we collect you the next day
We suggest flying in early the day before (usually a Wednesday) allowing a day to travel from Durban up to the border,
Then over night in Kosi Bay at Kosi Bay lodge (right at the border) to allow for an early morning collection at the border the next morning @ 9h30am
We also suggest an extra night on the Sunday night departing early Monday @ 9am, also allowing for a full day to travel home – booking an evening flight from Durban to CPT.
Please note most retreats are self catering so you will need to bring dry goods from Cape Town and then do a little shop for fresh goods en-route from Durban (we have detailed suggestions for this once you have booked)

Extra expenses involved over and above the package price quoted :
Return flight,
Hired vehicle & petrol,
Parking at the border (approximately R40 per day) ,
1 night at guest lodge at the kosi bay border , on the Wednesday night before entering Mozam, (aprox R500 dinner bed and breakfast ),
Extra 4th night at the camp ( approximately R250)
Some retreats are specifically targeted at Cape Town clients and this makes it easier to put clients onto one another to travel together & share travel expenses.
